When we hear the word “story” we usually associate it with a children’s tale or something along the lines, maybe entertainment. But the reality is that stories are the most ancient way we express (and share!) our humanity. Stories connect us, teach us, and heal us. They ignite curiosity and light the path when we feel lost.
But why do stories matter so much? What makes storytelling such a powerful and universal human experience? And why are we so drawn to stories, again and again?
As it turns out, science has answers but so does the soul. Stories Are Chemistry When we hear a story that resonates and moves us emotionally, our brains release oxytocin, the so-called “feel good” hormone. Oxytocin boosts empathy, trust, and compassion. It’s what helps us feel for the characters and, by extension, for each other. Unlike plain data or facts, stories help us relate. Not just understand.
